Getting rid of malnutrition

In Ghana malnutrition is a big problem, like vitamin A deficiency: 60% of the children and 55% of the mothers have vitamin A deficiency. Because of it's high nutritional value, the moringa business can contribute to the decrease of malnutrition.

To do so, several objectives need to be reached. These objectives can be divided in two main goals:

Education
By educating children, students, teachers, healthcare professionals and nursing mothers about the importance of a well-balanced feeding pattern and the way moringa powder (also called Mo Nutro Powder) can contribute to this, people are made aware about theircurrent feeding pattern and possibilities for improvement.

Also, a trainingprogramme for 180 farmers will start, where farmers will be educated about growing and selling moringa. This doesn't only contribute to a diversified source of income for the farmers, but also helps KITA with their moringa supply.

Trade
KITA is contributing to the possibility for locals to buy moringa powder by taking in a middle-man role between farmers and purchasers. In order to provide enough moringa powder, there are several goals that need to be reached:

  • An example farm at the KITA campus, which can contribute to the training of the farmers and can convince possible customers aswell.

  • A capacity at the KITA Milling and Packaging centre that can produce an amount of Mo Nutro Powder that is large enough.

  • Enough people/institutions/companies that are interested and want to buy the produced Mo Nutro Powder.

So, to start a sustainable moringa business at KITA, there have to be enough farmers educated and willing to supply moringa leaves to KITA, the productioncapacity at KITA has to be increased and there should be more sales of the final product; the Mo Nutro Powder.

The team on the project will persue achieving these goals.
